Safety and Protective Clothing/Equipment Developer



A world leader in the public safety, aviation, marine and aerospace markets seeks a Safety and Protective Clothing/Equipment Developer.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assists senior designer(s) with the original creation and development of safety and protective clothing (and related equipment such as helmets, gloves, etc) designed to protect personnel against a wide variety of potential hazards, particularly those associate to aerospace flight (i.e. pressure-space suits).


  2. Develops clothing and equipment which incorporate specialized systems to include, but not be limited to, breathing apparatus, communications systems and functional displays.


  3. Confers with staff members to determine and analyze requirements, including functional, environmental, safety, reliability, and quality assurance.


  4. Originates and develops design concepts with consideration to appearance, design functionality, serviceability, material and methods engineering, application, budget, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics and customer specifications.


  5. Performs predictive analysis on softgood designs including analysis and calculation of hoop stress, pressure loads (static and dynamic), and man induced loads.


  6. Interfaces with other design staff (engineers, technicians, SR&QA) to develop, evaluate and refine design concepts.


  7. Researches materials and develops material specifications.


  8. Directs and coordinates activities of workers who develop patterns and construct prototypes.


  9. Coordinates fabrication, test and evaluation of prototypes and prepares reports of same.


  10. Assists with the development and review of engineering/production documentation.


  11. Assists with the resolution of production problems necessitating design and/or material changes.


  12. Attends, supports and/or conducts off site design review meetings, as required. Prepares and conducts technical presentations, as required.


  13. Maintains awareness of critical, life sustaining function of the Company’s safety and protective equipment products and stays abreast of the state of the arts involved. This includes areas of materials technology, and design and manufacturing processes which have the potential for improving product performance and advancing the state of the arts.


Requirements:

  1. BS or equivalent technical degree.


  2. Minimum 4 years experience in softgoods design and integration.


  3. Familiarity with core softgood technologies to include stitching, cementing, ultrasonic/RF sealing, pattern design, pattern grading, material selection.


  4. Familiarity (proficiency preferred) with Gerber Garment Technologies Accumark Silhouette (or similar) System.


  5. Extensive knowledge in field of pattern design and grading, with particular emphasis on those skills specific to the design, development and fabrication of pressure-space suit ensembles.
